Fight the risk. The practice of Mixed Martial Arts– MMA as a modern ordeal

Abstract

This article analyzes the practice of Mixed Martial Arts - MMA as a category of modern ordeal presented by
David Le Breton, having the propositions and ideas of Pierre Bourdieu and Loïc Wacquant as epistemological
bases. Therefore, it was taken as research corpus athletes of this sport and its associated group. The
essentially qualitative research methodology was adopted, with bibliographic, documentary and field
exposure based on participant observation. Factors and characteristics of this combat sport were identified
that ensure the fit of the MMA in the category of modern ordeal, having the risk and variations of this as
the predominant element.
