Abstract
This article comprises a scientific critic effort of Koury’s (2001) study Being Discreet: A study of Brazilian urban from the perspective of mourning. This ethnography results of an extensive research in anthropology of emotions about the process of forming a new emotional culture in the Brazilian contemporary urban from 1970’. The scientific critic is understood as a way of reading the ethnographic text as a scientific argument about an empirical experience of construction and evaluation of data. The ethnography appears as a scientific exercise of thick description and analysis of otherness (Jacobson, 1991). It is an exercise of theoretical perspectives’ ruination of the researcher (Navaro-Yashin, 2009), while new possibilities of interpretation and understanding are realized in ethnographic making.
